Helping Nonprofit Organizations Do What They Do

by Marjorie on August 25, 2010

I face a big dilemma each year when it comes to awarding mini grants to nonprofit organizations in three states that we serve. I wish I had an unlimited pot of money to give each of the 104 organizations that applied for funds for the tremendous work they do in their communities.

This year, 30 nonprofit agencies will be awarded with community mini grant funds from Truliant. These agencies were selected through a competitive rating process after grant applications were submitted to us. I also conducted 10 grant workshops in the areas where Truliant has Member Financial Centers to assist agencies in writing for funds.

As a grant writer and a board member for several agencies, I know how hard it is to fund the operations of an organization each year. Therefore, the Truliant program was designed to address operational expenses that often are not budgeted at the beginning of each fiscal year.

One of the things that I have learned from implementing the grant process is that many organizations are not aware of the benefits that they could reap in opening a business account with Truliant or joining as a business partner and offering credit union benefits to their employees. So I make sure they know how affordable and accommodating we are by helping them with savings wherever we can, so that more dollars go in to the communities they serve.
