TRULIANT EMPLOYEES CELEBRATE NATIONAL CREDIT UNION DAY
Winston-Salem, N.C. - On October 20, 2011, credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. In honor of this special day, Truliant Federal Credit Union will invite four international associations to share their culture with Credit Union employees. The Liberian Organization of the Piedmont, the Indo-US Cultural Association, the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina and the Hispanic League of the Piedmont will set up displays at Truliant’s headquarters in Winston-Salem.
Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October, affording the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history, to promote awareness and to show support for the credit union difference. This year’s theme is “Credit Unions Build a Better World” and will highlight the important economic and social contributions credit unions make in their communities worldwide.
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 184 million members in 97 countries worldwide. They exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans. Truliant was chartered in 1952 and currently serves more than 180,000 members-owners with 22 Member Financial Centers in NC, SC, OH and VA.
Credit unions are recognized as a force for positive economic and social change and have provided significant value in both developed and emerging nations. International Credit Union Day is sponsored by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), the international trade association and development agency for credit unions worldwide and numerous national credit union trade associations and global federations.
