Truliant Celebrates National Credit Union Youth Week

04/30/2008

Winston-Salem, N.C., April 30, 2008 – On Friday, April 25, Truliant Federal Credit Union hosted a special kids’ celebration to wrap-up National Credit Union Youth Week. In coordination with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), National Credit Union Youth Week allows credit unions across the country the opportunity to join together to teach young people how to earn, spend, save and manage their own money wisely. The theme for this year’s event was “Got Green? Grow it at the Credit Union!”

“With more than 9,000 credit unions participating nationwide, this is a great way to teach children as well as parents about the importance of money management particularly in a period of economic slow down,” said Ginger Salt, Truliant’s senior vice president of markets.

The kids’ celebration was held at the Victory Member Financial Center on North Liberty Street in Winston-Salem and featured appearances by the Winston-Salem Fire Department and seatbelt safety mascot, Buckle Bear as well as Truliant’s Dollar Dog mascot. In addition to the financial literature available to parents and children, there was face painting, door prizes and giveaways, hot dogs, popcorn and a Space Jump.

All of Truliant’s member financial centers participated in National Credit Union Youth Week. Each location had prize drawings and a coloring contest and also handed out candy, pens. “green” shopping bags and piggy banks to children.
