Truliant Gives Financial Boost to 31 Nonprofit Agencies

08/19/2008

Winston-Salem, N.C. – In an economic climate where more and more nonprofit agencies are struggling to find operational dollars, Truliant Federal Credit Union has become part of the solution. Marjorie Rorie, Director of Community Services for Truliant designed the Truliant Community Mini-Grant Program to assist nonprofit agencies with operational costs. As a former grant-writer, she understands how scarce funding can be for nonprofits. Rorie also conducted 13 grant workshops to prepare nonprofit agencies with their grant applications.

“I wanted to find a way for Truliant to connect with what we feel is the “heart” of every community – nonprofit organizations,” Rorie commented. “Truliant is committed to meeting the community’s needs and have strengthened this connection by developing new guidelines for organizations with a 501 ( c ) 3 nonprofit status to open accounts with Truliant.”

To qualify for the grant, community and faith-based agencies had to impact one or more of the following areas: health or human services, youth, affordable housing, financial literacy or economic development. The agencies had to provide service to underserved groups and/or low-to-moderate income areas in communities surrounding Truliant Member Financial Centers in North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina.   The grant program proved to be a success with over 110 applicants submitting grants. The following 31 agencies received grant awards:
