Truliant Federal Credit Union Awards 11 Scholarships

05/21/2008

Winston-Salem, N.C.(May 21, 2008) – In the continued spirit of giving back to the community, Truliant Federal Credit Union has awarded 11 scholarships totaling $15,000 to their member-owners through the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation (CCUF) scholarship program. Through Scholar Vision Funds, CCUF awards scholarships to help credit union members in North and South Carolina achieve a higher level of education. Since inception, CCUF has awarded more than $680,000 in scholarships to credit union members. Truliant’s member-owners received scholarships from three Scholar Vision Funds: the Sarda Fund, Pioneers Fund and CCUF’s general fund.

Truliant established the Sarda Scholarship in 1996, as part of the Scholar Vision Funds to honor Fred J. Sarda, a founding member of the credit union. The five recipients of $1,000 Sarda Scholarships for 2008 are Steven Langerman of Greensboro, N.C., Emily Griffin of Snow Camp, N.C., Jonathan Crocker of Gaffney, S.C., Bryan Shoffner of Graham, N.C., and Aaron Dancy of Graham, N.C.

The Telephone Pioneers Club Scholarship is awarded each year to three Truliant member-owners with a relative who worked or is currently working for AT&T or Lucent Technologies in the Winston-Salem area. The 2008 scholarships were awarded, each in the amount of $2,000 to Laura Mayerchak of Pinnacle N.C., Kyrie Joyce of High Point, N.C., and Kaitlyn Cranford of Climax, N.C.

CCUF awarded two $1,500 scholarships to Truliant members from their general fund. The 2008 recipients are Joshua Wynn of Boiling Springs, S.C., and Christa Carter of Charlotte, N.C. The Clyde Padgett Scholarship of $1,000, a scholarship that provides
