Scholarship Guidelines

Truliant helps support the local community in a variety of ways, such as scholarships for local members.

The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation's Scholarship Program was established in 1996 to provide funds to help credit union member-owners continue their education. A college education is one of the best investments a person can make, and your credit union is dedicated to helping its members with that investment.

To be eligible for consideration for one of Truliant’s five Fred J. Sarda Scholarships or other scholarships offered by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation; an applicant must be (1) a member of Truliant Federal Credit Union and (2) be enrolled or accepted to be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university.

In addition, three scholarships are offered based on a contribution by the Winston-Salem Club Telephone Pioneers. To be eligible for these scholarships, an applicant must be a relative of a past or present employee of Lucent Technologies in Forsyth County (formerly AT&T). The only eligible locations are Reynolda Road and Lexington Road.

Applicants will be evaluated by the Foundation's Scholarship Selection Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated academic ability. The applicant should provide transcripts; including GPA (a minimum GPA of 3.00 is required). Entering freshmen should include high school records and continuing students should provide high school records and college records as considered necessary.
  • Demonstrated writing ability. The applicant must submit an essay on the topic listed in the application.
  • School activities. The applicant should list all high school or college activities. Explain which activity is most important and why.
  • Community activities. The applicant should list all community activities with high school or college activities. Explain which activity is most important and why.

There is a supplemental section explaining financial assistance. Applicants interested in consideration for a scholarship based on financial need, in addition to scholastics, should provide the requested information.

Below is an application to be completed in its entirety and returned to your local Truliant Member Financial Center or mailed to the address referenced in the application, no later than February 12, 2010.
