Grant Application Period Opens for Truliant Financial Education Fund

Grant Application Period Opens for Truliant Financial Education Fund

Release date: 9/20/2017

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Sept. 20, 2017) – Truliant Federal Credit Union is now accepting applications from community schools until Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 for the Truliant Financial Education Fund.

Truliant’s Financial Education Grant program provides funds up to $5,000 to public school teachers, grades 6-12, who wish to incorporate financial education initiatives into their classroom curriculum.

Funds can be used to improve existing programs or to implement a new program. Funding may be provided to support classroom activities, professional development opportunities or new and innovative ways to teach financial education. Topics might include budgeting, saving, investing, entrepreneurship, business and economics.

Truliant will distribute a total of $200,000 in financial literacy education grants through 2020. The grant fund was launched in 2016 in celebration of the credit union reaching the 200,000 member-owner milestone and growth surpassing $2 billion in assets.

Financial education grants provide funding to school systems in communities where the credit union has Member Financial Center locations. Truliant has a total of 33 locations in North and South Carolina, and Virginia.

Teachers may apply individually or collaborate and apply as a department. A preliminary budget is required to demonstrate how the funds will be spent. Teachers can access the grant application by visiting truliant.org/schoolgrants.

An internal review process will determine semi-finalists from all applications received. Selected semi-finalist will be featured on Truliant’s Facebook page and website to encourage support of the selected programs through online voting. Grant recipients will be selected based on combined totals from the internal review process and the online voting process.

Completed applications, including all documentation required, should be submitted by Friday, October 6, 2017, at 11:59 PM EST. Semi-finalists who are selected to be featured in the online voting will be notified later in October. Winners will be announced in mid-November.
