Eleven Questions With Member Financial Center Manager Sara Raddatz

Contributed by: Heath Combs

What do Spock, Beck and Sushi have in common? Our Whitaker Square Member Financial Center Manager Sara Raddatz is a fan of all three.(She's shown - pointing - in the photo with this blog).

Sara began her career at Truliant in 2009 as a part-time Member Service Representative at our High Point Member Financial Center. She worked her way through the ranks to become Manager of our Whitaker Square Member Financial Center in 2015.

You can visit Sara at Truliant’s Whitaker Square location (or schedule an appointment at this location here)  at 1985 N Peace Haven Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Get to know more about her below.

Who is your favorite Superhero and why?

I am not into superheroes enough to have a favorite from the traditional comic book hero pool. If we can consider Spock a superhero, then he would be my favorite. He’s always saving his friends, family, and galaxy while navigating his own internal struggle of who he is.

You step outside and find a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million. What would you do?

This is assuming I was unable to determine who the owner of the found ticket was… I would probably pay off any debits we have, invest a significant portion, then take time to travel the world. Beyond that, I think it would depend what path life would take us on as to where we would plant roots and start the next adventure.

Tell me about a local group/nonprofit you are involved in and why.

I serve as Vice Chair for the Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools Career Academy board. Involvement with the National Academy Foundation program enables me and Truliant to be active participants in preparing our students to be our future workforce. Hopefully, the students in these academy programs will come back to Forsyth County to work after college.

What is one of the most useful financial tools you recommend to our members?

Definitely the No-Cost Credit Review. This service not only provides our members with knowledge of their score and what is reporting on their credit report, but also allows for a more in depth understanding of how credit works. Starting off with this enables me to make strategic plans integrating monthly budgeting, debt reduction, and future savings plans.

Do you have any inspiring stories about members at your Member Financial Center?

We helped a couple who have a daughter who starts college in fall of 2017 and met with us to talk about loan options. They were the rare position of being comfortable with their monthly payments on their loans so they didn’t pay much attention to their credit.

Through the No-Cost Credit Review, we identified that they had pre-recession home loans, and way more credit card debt than they realized they’d taken on. We helped refinance their mortgage partnering it with a home equity and personal loan to consolidate and refinance their existing debt while also producing enough monthly savings to set aside for their daughter’s school needs without having to take on more debt.

They are now setting aside $800 each month for school costs. I think it was the first time I had someone go out of their way to come to our location just to shake our hands for helping them.

What’s your favorite ’90s jam?

I think every one of my Pandora stations is 90s. Right now I am listening to Dinosaur Jr. and Beck the most. My team will tell you I get pretty excited when anything Backstreet Boys comes on in our location though.

What was the last gift you gave someone?

Chocolates and Ninja Turtle valentines

What are you watching on TV right now and why?

Chef’s Table on Netflix because the featured chefs are true artists. They are innovative and passionate about their craft and it is beautiful. I’m also watching Game of Thrones, I haven’t ever gotten into it but my team convinced me to give it another try.

What restaurant is your favorite near your Member Financial Center location?

Mizu Japanese & Sushi

What tips do you give members to improve their financial health?

It’s okay to ask for tips and get second opinions. Sometimes the loan or account you want is not the loan or account that’s right for you. Understanding your finances is the first step to being finically healthy.

What dish do you cook better than anyone?

Marshmallow Mermaid Pie
