The Real World is Getting a Little Greener

Kids, now young graduates, are pulling that tassel across their cap this graduation season. If you’re like me, you might recall receiving those graduation cards in the mail from Aunt Sue or Uncle Wingate and eagerly hoping for something green to drop out of the card. Hey, I earned it by graduating, didn’t I?

And it sure was nice when it fell out, knowing that I’d have a little money to put into a dwindling savings account or to use for expenses after graduation. Kids may have changed, but the desire for that kind of gift remains strong.

Gone Phishing…

Sitting by a lake catching fish with my Dad was one of my favorite things when I was little. I was usually the one that caught actual fish, while my Dad ended up getting an old shoe or a stick.

These days there’s a different kind of fishing going on that could be quite harmful. ‘Phishing’ is the term for fraud where criminals pose as a reputable entity and attempt to “catch” your personal information. Crooks will use websites, phone calls or text messages that sound or appear legitimate to bait unsuspecting victims into giving out usernames, passwords, and even credit card numbers.

Say Goodbye

Most people think saying goodbye is a sad thing, but that’s not always the case.  I’ll very happily say goodbye to pollen & my seasonal allergies (hopefully soon!).

Should I keep driving the one that brung me?

Have you been putting your used car in the shop more times than you care to recall?  Is your wallet screaming for it to stop?  That has been the case recently with my mom and her car. She has had her car in the shop three times in the past six weeks. Her car is a really nice, recognizable brand and only six years old, but significant little things keep going wrong, and of course all of these repairs are outside the warranty period – so the costs are coming right out of her wallet.
