Start Planning for the Summer Now

Contributed by: Heath Combs

Summertime is right around the corner and with it comes sunny days, watery fun and summer vacation. Are you ready to take a relaxing retreat or to have a fun-packed vacation with the kids? While you may be ready to rid yourself of the cold weather and rainy days, is your wallet just as prepared?

The average family of four will spend up to $4,000 on vacation including air fare, according to USA Today. According to a recent AAA survey, more than 35 percent of Americans are planning to take a vacation of 50 miles or more away from home involving two or more immediate family members this year. While 70 percent of families are planning to take one or two vacation, the study finds that there is a 28 percent increase this year in the number of Americans who say they are planning to take three or more vacations compared to 15 percent in 2016.

The top international destinations are the Caribbean, Italy, France, Ireland, Mexico and Spain. The top domestic destination are Orlando, Alaska, Florida beaches, Hawaii, Las Vegas and California, according to AAA Carolinas Travel bookings.

Whether you’re going near or far it’s important to plan to look past the hotel and travel and remember the small things that add up to big costs quickly. According to U.S. News, some of the most commonly overlooked travel expenses include things like fees for checked baggage, taxes, excursion and tour costs, parking and resort fees, and currency exchange fees. To avoid overspending on vacation, take a close look at your entire itinerary to look for those spots where you’d be spending money.

Truliant offers several ways to help you save for everything from a rainy day to a summer getaway, that way you can focus more on fun and less on finances. A number of different automatic savings accounts are designed to simplify your life, strengthen your finances, and help achieve your ideal financial result for whatever may happen over the summer. You’re sure to appreciate how simple it is to set aside money with daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly transfers to fit your budget and savings time frame.

Truliant’s Save Your Way account1 offers you the flexibility to transfer a preauthorized amount, ranging from $1.99 to $20, on a daily basis (excluding Sundays and Holidays). This allows you to transfer money into your account as often as you’d like, earning dividends every month.
