Payment App Scams

Video Transcript

You could lose hundreds of dollars in seconds. Here's how scammers are targeting payment apps like Zelle. Peer-to-peer payment apps like Zelle, Venmo, and Cash App are great for sending money quickly—but scammers know this too. They often pose as someone trustworthy, like your bank, a friend, or even a customer service rep, and trick you into sending them money.

To protect yourself, here are some things you should keep in mind: First, never send money to someone you don't personally know. Second, always verify payment requests independently. Call your friend, check with your bank, or contact the company directly—just to make sure no one’s trying to do something shady. And lastly, remember: payment apps don’t typically offer refunds for transactions that you willingly authorize, even if you’ve been tricked.

So, I want you to think twice before tapping "send" on that payment. And follow us here for more tips to keep your money safe.
