Truliant Hosts Congressman Ted Budd in Roundtable Discussion

Truliant Hosts Congressman Ted Budd in Roundtable Discussion

Release date: 9/1/2017

Winston-Salem, N.C. (Sept. 1, 2017) — Truliant Federal Credit Union on Wednesday hosted U.S. Rep. Ted Budd, R-NC, in a roundtable discussion of issues with representatives from eight credit unions across North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District.

The event was coordinated by the Carolinas Credit Union League.

Budd, a first-year member of Congress whose district stretches from the northern suburbs of the Charlotte metro region to Greensboro, is heavily engaged in credit union issues on Capitol Hill due to his service on House Financial Services Committee.

At the discussion, Budd thanked the group for its support and for their concern with members’ and citizens’ financial well-being. He voiced his support for the repeal of the Durbin amendment, which sets price controls on debit card transaction fees. Prior to the Durbin amendment, which was part of the Dodd-Frank Act, consumers enjoyed the benefit of financial institutions competing via lower transaction fees.

During the session, Budd also voiced support for Consumer Financial Protection Bureau reform and lessening the regulatory burden for credit unions.

“As a member of Congress and the U.S. House of Representatives’ Financial Services Committee, Congressman Budd shares Truliant’s interests in providing our member-owners and consumers in the 13th District with convenient access to affordable financial services,” said Marc Schaefer, president and CEO of Truliant.

“Meeting with Congressman Budd to review the impact of regulations and legislation on our ability to offer auto loans, mortgages, credit and debit cards and other important services that improve our members' lives is a reflection of a healthy democratic process whereby a representative of the people listens and acts in the best interests of their constituency and our community.”

In addition to host Truliant, roundtable participants included representatives from American Partners FCU, Coastal FCU, Greensboro Municipal FCU, Lion’s Share FCU, Piedmont Advantage CU, Premier FCU, and State Employees’ CU.
