In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all Truliant locations will be closed on Monday, January 18th.


Truliant is proud to award multiple scholarships every year to improve the lives of members and their children who want to further their education. Scholarship opportunities exist for high school students entering college and for children of Truliant employees and board members.

Applicants will submit one application through a portal managed by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. More information, including FAQs, can be found inside the application portal.

2021 Scholarship Guidelines:

  • Fred J. Sarda Scholarships – $1,000 each. Applicants must be: (1) a high school senior accepted to be enrolled in an accredited college, community college or university in Fall 2021 and (2) a member of Truliant Federal Credit Union. These funds are provided by Truliant Federal Credit Union in partnership with the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation.  

  • Clyde Padgett Scholarship – $1,000. Eligible applicants must be: (1) a dependent of a current Truliant employees, an employee retired with full benefits or a volunteer/board member, (2) a high school senior accepted to be enrolled in an accredited college, community college or university in Fall 2021. These funds are provided by Truliant Federal Credit Union in partnership with the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation.  Awarded to one student annually.

  • General Fund Scholarships – These funds are provided by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. Scholarships are available to members of any credit union in North and South Carolina. Both academic and needs-based scholarships for all levels of higher education are awarded, including technical and community college scholarships.

Applicants are evaluated by the Foundation's Scholarship Selection Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated academic ability - Applicants should provide school transcripts.  A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 is required to be eligible for scholarship funding.

  • Demonstrated writing ability – Applicants must submit an essay on the topic listed in the application.

  • School activities – Applicants should list all school activities and explain which activity is most important and why.

  • Community activities – Applicants should list all community activities unrelated to school and explain which activity is most important and why

2021-2022 Scholarship Timeline

  • February 1, 2021 – Application period closes

  • Early April 2021 – All applicants are notified of their application status via email by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation

  • May 15, 2021 – All winners are confirmed through the online portal using the online verification form

  • June-July 2021 – Payments are processed and funds are distributed to the college, community college or university by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, on behalf of Truliant
