Flythe Named Chairman of Truliant Board of Directors

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 23, 2019) The Truliant Federal Credit Union Board of Directors has elected James (Jimmy) T. Flythe, Jr. as its new chairman for the 2019-20 term.

Mr. Flythe has worked for Duke Energy since 1985. He is currently Duke Energy’s director of government and community relations for the west region of North Carolina. He joined Truliant’s board in 2011 and been vice chairman since 2015. Mr. Flythe replaces Gregory W. Thrush, who has served as chairman since 2007 and will remain on Truliant’s board.

“Truliant is a strong credit union, with great leadership and tremendous talent. I look forward to leading our board as we set the framework to create lasting value for our member-owners,” Mr. Flythe said.

“Our board thanks Greg for his commitment to Truliant’s mission during a period of transformation,” he added. “During his tenure as chairman, Truliant has grown from 160,000 members and 24 branches to more than 240,000 members and 32 locations while offering better technology to meet member needs. Truliant is well positioned for future success.”

Mr. Flythe has served several local business organizations in board roles, including the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, Winston-Salem Business Inc., and the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce. He has a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University.

Mr. Thrush has served on the Truliant board since 1994. He became chairman in 2007 after retiring from the Timken Company. His time as chairman has been during a critical period of growth and change for Truliant.

“It has been a privilege to lead the dedicated group of business leaders who comprise our board through an invigorating and exciting period for Truliant,” Mr. Thrush said. “They have made an excellent choice in electing Jimmy chairman. He is a strong leader with a deep knowledge of Truliant. I am confident he will continue delivering on our mission to improve member-owners’ lives.”
