Truliant,Truliant Foundation Holiday Campaign Raises $107,000 for Food Banks

Donate Dollars

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (January 27, 2026) – Truliant Federal Credit Union and the Truliant Foundation joined forces during the holidays to raise more than $100,000 to support regional food banks in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The “Donate Dollars – Feeding Our Neighbors in Need” fundraising campaign launched in November 2025 with a credit union and foundation kick-off donation of $50,000 to food banks. The Truliant Foundation matched all subsequent gifts, bringing the final total to more than $107,000.

Support for food banks is making a real, positive impact in our communities,” said Atticus Simpson, executive director of the Truliant Foundation. “With these funds, organizations can continue to help more families access nutritious meals, even as costs rise and demand grows. Every contribution helps strengthen the safety net that food banks provide.”

The funds are being distributed to four organizations: Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina will receive $53,200, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte will receive $27,500, Harvest Hope in South Carolina will receive $11,000, and Feeding Southwest Virginia will receive $15,500.

“We deeply appreciate Truliant Federal Credit Union and the Truliant Foundation for standing with our neighbors and with Second Harvest at a time when so many households are feeling the strain of rising food and living costs,” said Eric Aft, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.

“This support helps ensure that seniors, children, families, and veterans across our region can count on nourishing food—food that supports health, dignity, and stability. As Second Harvest continues to navigate significant challenges of our own, partnerships like this make it possible for us to keep showing up for the communities we serve, together.”

In 2023, about 86% of the counties in the U.S. with the highest levels of food insecurity were located in the South, according to Feeding America’s 2025 Map the Meal Gap study. The study also noted that more than 340,000 people experience food insecurity in the 18-county region served by Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.

“Thanks to their gift, our food bank will have the ability to distribute approximately 192,500 pounds of nutritious food such as fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, eggs and milk, and meat,” said Kay Carter, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “All of these foods help provide a well-balanced diet to high-need individuals and their families.”

Pamela Irvine, President & CEO of Feeding Southwest Virginia, said: "Thanks to Truliant’s generous support, Feeding Southwest Virginia can provide the equivalent of 31,000 meals to our neighbors in need.”

Irvine added: “In communities like Wythe County and Radford City—where more than 15 percent of residents struggle with food insecurity—this partnership is more vital than ever. We are deeply grateful to Truliant for joining us in the fight against hunger."
