WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (March 13, 2012) – Truliant Federal Credit Union hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 9 to celebrate the opening of its new middle school Member Financial Center located at Wiley Middle School in Winston-Salem.

The new location, which opened its doors on January 25, 2012, is the first credit union branch located in a middle school in North Carolina. Truliant’s formal ribbon cutting ceremony featured performances of Gloria in excelsis deo and Canon in D by Wiley Middle School’s Honor String Ensemble. In attendance were Forsyth County Superintendent; Dr. Don Martin, members of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, as well as several executives from the Forsyth County School System.

“This is a great way to help students learn the value of saving money early,” said Sean Gillard, Wiley Middle School Principal. “Our school theme is Leadership and Service, and Truliant is a great partner to help students realize this through personal finance.”

Truliant is pleased to be part of the financial education of young adults in our community,” stated Marc Schaefer, Truliant’s President and CEO. “We look forward to meeting the needs of and educating our young member-owners.”

The student-run credit union, located inside the school, operates as a real financial institution where students can open their own personal savings accounts and conduct their own transactions. The credit union will be open on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
