Truliant Names Whisler Treasurer

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 14, 2020) – Truliant Federal Credit Union has named Benjamin J. Whisler to the newly created role of Treasurer.

Whisler will manage corporate liquidity, investments, and risk modeling.  He will be responsible for financial management strategies, including overseeing treasury activities and functions, meeting short and long-term funding needs and managing Truliant’s investment broker relationships.

“B.J.’s high caliber of experience will help us continue to excel in serving the needs of our members,” said David D’Annunzio, Chief Financial Officer. “His knowledge of investment portfolio management, corporate finance, and risk management will be vital to supporting our growth and member-focused strategies.”

A former NASA engineer, Whisler began his Treasury management career as a founding member of the Investments and Risk Evaluation team for a group of community banks.  He helped guide Chapel Hill-based Harrington Bank through the 2008 financial crisis as a member of its management team and supervised the sale of the bank to Bank of North Carolina.

As the head of research and portfolio management for Bull City Advisors, Whisler oversaw portfolio allocations for a $160 million registered investment advisor serving private wealth clients.

Most recently, Whisler served as a consultant for North Carolina-based financial services firms. Among projects completed in this role, he built a long-term venture capital business plan that focused on helping small business owners who are underserved by traditional venture capital.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration, both from Duke University.
