Truliant’s Community Mini Grants program accepts and considers proposals annually that support programming or capacity-building needs. Each selected organization submitted a grant proposal for a project focusing on one of the following areas: community development, economic mobility, financial wellness or youth and education.
“As a credit union that works to strengthen local organizations, we’re proud to offer support for nonprofit projects that engage the communities where our members live and that serve the common good,” said Atticus Simpson, director of community affairs. “It’s amazing to see the high-quality programming and critical resources our community organizations provide through this community driven grant program.”
The grant program, now in its 13th year, has awarded more than $350,000. Truliant accepts applications from regions where the credit union offers membership in the Carolinas and Virginia. Since its inception, the Truliant Community Mini Grants program has awarded money to more than 250 different nonprofit organizations.
A full list of the winners and their submitted projects is below:
2021 Mini Grant Winners
Alamance Community College Foundation – $1,500: To support the ACC Foundation’s Emergency Distress Fund. This fund provides assistance to students who may be prevented from continuing their education due to emergency financial circumstances.
Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County – $1,500: Funds will be used to purchase program supplies such as portfolios and personal planners for students, food for weekly activities and junior staff work uniforms.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont – $1,500: To purchase “take-home kits” for the little brothers and sisters in the program.
Guilford Green Foundation & LGBTQ Center – $1,500: The grant will be used to fund the LGBTQ Youth Prom, including venue costs, entertainment, food and decorations.
The Color of Reason-Women’s Community Council – $1,500: The grant will help provide education resources to participants in The Girls’ Leadership by Design and provide rewards for completing certain tasks during internal competitions.
United Way of Greater High Point – $1,500: Funds will be used to purchase weekend meals for food insecure students that are at risk of going hungry over the weekends or during school breaks.
West End Ministries, Inc. – $1,500: The funding will be applied toward food programs that are open to everyone who has a need.
Crosby Scholars Community Partnership – $1,500: The funds will be used to boost the retention of Hispanic/Latino students in the Crosby Scholars program. Students will be helped in finding and achieving a path to college.
Financial Pathways of the Piedmont – $1,500: The funding will allow the organization to waive client fees, pay for virtual counseling and support all the financial education and counseling services.
greeNest – $1,500: The funds will support the furniture voucher match program to provide individuals and families with essential furniture.
Hispanic League – $1,500: The grant will be used to help establish a Small Business/Entrepreneur Program that is focused on Hispanic/Latino owners and entrepreneurs.
H.O.P.E. of Winston-Salem Inc. – $1,500: The grant will be used for enrichment equipment for H.O.P.E.’s mission of making healthy food accessible to children at risk of hunger and living in poverty.
LEAD Girls of North Carolina – $1,500: The funds will support fall semester costs for girls in the 10th grade, including culturally relevant books, curriculum materials, supplies, incentives and feminine hygiene products.
My FACE, Inc. – $1,500: The grant will help with food delivery to families and group homes, normally delivered to families with 3-6 children.
Triad Restorative Justice – $1,500: The funds will be used to provide food, transportation and activities for youth entering Triad RJ programs.
ANSWER Scholarship, Inc. – $1,500: The funds will support the Mentor for Mom program. This program provides professional development opportunities for scholars in the program.
Children’s Home Society of NC – $1,500: The funds will be used for anything that will assist in sustaining and stabilizing families so they are healthy and safe. During interventions needs range from food, clothing, furniture and bill payments.
Circle de Luz – $1,500: The grant will support Latinas in low socio-economic status schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system. The program features mentoring and holistic programming to provide academic support, in-school advocacy and a broad range of experiences.
Families Forward Charlotte – $1,500: The funds support the S.T.E.P.S. program through weekly meetings from six months after graduation to help navigate work and life challenges.
Florence Crittenton Services of North Carolina – $1,500: The funds will support transportation for clients to attend job interviews. It will also be used for supplies and software for computer assessments and instruction on mock interviews and resume writing.
Grooming Greatness Foundation – $1,500: The funds will be used to purchase course materials and camera supplies to instruct youth.
Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas – $1,500: The funds will support curriculum training collateral for upper level high school students and direct program marketing with high schools that are aligned with low-to-moderate income elementary schools.
Matthews (N.C.) HELP Center – $1,500: Funds will be used to help provide short-term financial assistance to individuals and families who are behind on rent/utilities due to job loss, wage reductions or a major medical setback.
Moms Making Moves – $1,500: Funds will be used to support the group’s meal program, which serves more than 1,100 people each quarter.
Right Moves for Youth in Charlotte – $1,500: The funds will support virtual delivery of programs and the technology to support those efforts.
Young Black Leadership Alliance (YBLA) - $1,500: The funds will be used to support the student service projects and provide awards and prizes for the most impactful projects.
Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County – $1,500: The funds will be used to replace aging and non-supported computer equipment.
Feeding Southwest Virginia – $1,500: The program provides five meals through the Food Distribution Program. These funds will provide 7,500 meals.
Helping Overcome Poverty’s Existence – $1,500: The funds will support accounting services for more than 10 other nonprofit organizations in Wytheville, Va.
Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread, Inc. – $1,500: The funds will be used to help cover the costs for providing meals through the Community Meal Partnership for one year.
