DeSalvo Named Novant Health Foundation Women's Council Membership Chair

Winston-Salem, N.C. (Dec.8, 2014) – Karen DeSalvo, chief marketing officer for Truliant Federal Credit Union, has been named Chair of the Membership Committee for the Women’s Council supporting Novant Health Foundation Forsyth Medical Center.

The Women’s Council focuses on improving the health of women and girls of all ages and circumstances. With nearly 200 members, the Women’s Council works to ensure every female in the Forsyth County area has equal access to the information and opportunities that support her health and well-being. The group is well-known for its annual signature fundraising event, The Garden Party, which cultivates support for its mission.

“Ensuring women’s health is one of the biggest contributions we can make to improve lives and build strong communities,” DeSalvo said. “I am honored to be part of this remarkable group that makes empowering women with the educational tools they need to protect their health the centerpiece of its work.”

The council first met in 2008 and has given more than $300,000 in grants, including creation of a nurse navigator position to support women undergoing treatment for gynecological cancers. Other programs that have received support include those that: help provide mammograms for uninsured or underinsured women; teach pre-teens healthy attitudes and behaviors to last a lifetime; offer special care for domestic and sexual assault survivors; provide heart risk assessments and wellness program scholarships, among others.

DeSalvo has more than 25 years of marketing, advertising and leadership experience. She became Truliant’s Chief Marketing Officer in October 2010 and leads its marketing strategy across all of its services and products including membership, education, community outreach, research and data analytics with a focus on improving members’ lives by helping them build strong financial futures.

She received a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration in Advertising and Public Relations from Youngstown State University in Ohio and is one of fewer than 250 individuals nationally to hold the Certified Financial Marketing Professional certification. Additionally, she is a graduate of the ABA School of Marketing and Management.
